The Black Cowboy ‘Man or Myth’ African American Cultural Festival

May 3-6, 2012

The Black Cultural Enlightment Society invites all people of every race to come and share the festivities of African American Culture and Heritage. There will be horse competitions, African drums, dancing, storytelling, gospel and blues music, ethnic foods, displays, educational lectures, agriculture workshops and more. For a family, this weekend of fun on the farm with buggy rides and horseback riding will be one to remember, as African American culture is celebrated.

Downtown Friday Nights 1st Friday

Chief Complaint will be taking the stage so bring your lawn chairs and join us for fun! 1st Fridays offers a chance to break out the dancing shoes, meet friends old and new, and get moving to some of the best in live entertainment! FREE admission. Food and beverages will be for sale.

Shaw Air Force Base – Air Expo 2012

May 5-6, 2012

Join us as we welcome The Thunderbirds to this event on Saturday May 5th and Sunday May 6th. Shaw’s gates will open to the public at 7:30am with performances beginning at 10am each day. The Sumter-Shaw community welcomes you. Bring the whole family for a great day of stunts, performances, and vintage static displays of your favorite aircraft. Concessions and souvenirs will be able available at our vendor booths. Carpooling to Shaw Air Expo 2012 is highly encouraged. Attendees may enter the base at either the main or commercial gates, both located on Highway 378. FREE admission!

Swan Lake Iris Gardens

The waters of Swan Lake form the setting for the spectacular Iris Gardens. The only public park in the U.S. to feature all eight swan species, Swan Lake is also home to some of the nation’s most intensive plantings of Japanese iris. Admission is FREE.
